Temaki! Nori seaweed cones

Temaki! Nori seaweed cones

So far, on the Oriental Market blog, we have often talked about a well-known and widely used ingredient in Japanese cuisine: nori seaweed. In some of our previous articles, we had talked about this seaweed as an essential ingredient in the preparation of classic sushi or recipes such as “Tuna Gunkan” , but also as an oriental snack, an appetizer that causes a sensation among lovers of this flavour. This week, we do not leave nori seaweed aside, and we do so by talking about its shape when it is called temaki. Let’s start…

What does “temaki” mean? The word “te” in Japanese means “hand” and “maki”, as many of you already know, means “rolled”. Therefore, we are talking about “hand-rolled”, or in other words, sushi! Temaki is a type of sushi, yes, but with a clear difference: its shape. A cone or seaweed cone that you can easily prepare at home without using a mat and fill with all kinds of ingredients, very similar to those you usually include in sushi. However, at Oriental Market we go further, and with the aim of making each recipe step by step easier, we have a surprise for you: ready-made temaki! Ready-made cones that will allow you to prepare your dinner or special meal in an easier and faster way. Did you know them?

Remember: If you prefer to make them yourself, temakis are made by rolling a dehydrated Nori seaweed into a cone (you need a bit of art ;)) to fill it with rice, as a base, and add various ingredients such as salmon, tuna, prawns, natural crab, rocket, oak leaves, almonds, cream cheese, spring onion, mushrooms, avocado, Japanese mayonnaise or any other ingredient you want to surprise with. A temaki is about 16cm long and contains about 140g.
