This week we would like to talk about Shichimi Togarashi, the Japanese seven-spice seasoning. Perhaps many of you are not familiar with it, and that is why we wanted to dedicate this article to talk about this condiment that is widely used in Japanese cuisine. If you like spicy flavours, you won’t be able to resist trying this delicious and very practical oriental seasoning.
Shichimi Togarashi (seven-flavoured chilli) is a Japanese spice blend that includes the following 7 ingredients: sansho, a Japanese pepper that comes from a low, thorny, deciduous shrub of the mandarin family; ground red chilli peppers, hemp seeds, dried mandarin peel, ground nori seaweed (the seaweed we usually use for sushi), black and white sesame and white poppy seeds. Although there are a variety of spice blends that incorporate some hot spices, each one provides a different taste and culinary value depending on its composition and origin.
In traditional Japanese cuisine, the most suitable dishes to season with this spice blend are undoubtedly noodles and sushi. A condiment that we can find in bottle format and that can give a special touch to our dishes. As well as giving a spicy touch, Shichimi gives a unique and seductive colour.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to try it, we recommend you to choose our particular “Seven Spices Nanami Togarashi Shichimi of the premium brand S&B”. A Japanese product that will delight your dishes.
